We had an interesting discussion on Peter Murphy’s John the Revelator, especially with the biographical accompaniment provided by one of our book group members who is Peter Murphy’s cousin! It was fascinating to see how autobiographical books can be, for me the book when discussed in this light was very much akin to Virginia Woolf’s 1925 novel To the Lighthouse, which is extensively autobiographical as all of the characters were based on real-life people. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and the book scored 6.8 overall!
In case you missed the email, we are reading the twenty poems for the T. S. Eliot prize on 13th December as well as having a little festive literary party. Feel free to bring food and drink!
P.S. To Murphy’s cousin – if you would like to be named in the blog, please let me or Joan know and I’ll edit the blog post. I didn’t like to use your name just in case you didn’t want it up here – though you were an important part of our discussion to say the least!
Please send my regards to the family!
Best,
Peter M
